Psychanalyse des fleurs
Literary & olfactory disposition
Ismaël Jude

in collaboration with
Kitty Shpirer

The installation consists of six stations cleverly arranged in a space. You settle down to smell and listen to six scents, the voices of three actresses and two actors interpreting texts written by Ismaël Jude. At each station, you smell the subtle olfactory variations of fragrances specially created by perfumer Kitty Shpirer.

Both listener and "olfacteur", you move freely from one station to the next, as if you were lost, eyes closed, in a Mediterranean garden, or rediscovering a bit of childhood in a playful, dreamlike space. You take the scent diffuser in your hand and hold it to your nose, while a voice whispers erotic, comic or melancholy texts.

The texts recount olfactory experiences. Psychoanalysis of Flowers is an intimate, multi-faceted odyssey, an exploration of "Mediterranean gardens" from Adonis (Aphrodite's lover) to Gilles Clément (the landscape gardener).

An ethic of the sense of smell is asserted. The experience of smell produces attachments to the environments in which we live.

At the most intimate level of our sensations, we find what we have in common with other humans, and with non-humans.
